Derrick M Davis
Derrick Davis joined the firm as an Associate Attorney in 2019. He is a 2018 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law and is licensed to practice in Tennessee. Throughout law school and prior to joining Quist, Fitzpatrick & Jarrard, he worked for a local intellectual property law firm, where he handled various matters pertaining to patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Although Derrick focuses his practice upon issues specific to IP law, he also represents clients in a range of general transactional and civil litigation settings.
Derrick’s pursuit of a career as an IP attorney began in Southern Illinois, where he worked during college as an operating room assistant at the Orthopaedic Institute and as a laboratory research assistant within the SIU School of Medicine. By providing Derrick with daily exposure to complex technology and methods, these experiences directly generated his interest in the relationship between IP and innovation.
While enrolled at the UT College of Law, Derrick helped clients as a student attorney in the trademark clinic, participated on the patent moot court team, and contributed to books and articles on IP law while he worked as a research assistant for the Clayton Center for Entrepreneurial Law. He also served as an IP & Commercialization Analyst with the University of Tennessee Research Foundation, where he screened university-funded research for both prospective IP rights and market potential.
